Crate Training

Writer's picture: Dianne GarnerDianne Garner

Crate Training has started.

1) Introduction door open

2) 10 - 15 mins door closed, praise, treats, open door, praise, treats

3) Increase time repeat step 2, repeat, repeat.

4) Overnight Crating

Typically they do NOT poop/ pee where they sleep.

They are young and need to go out to poop/pee before bedtime. Yes, their bladders need conditioning to hold it all night so, they will wake up to poop/ pee a couple of times at first.

I know not everyone uses crates however; I feel it’s the safest place for them when you cannot watch them 24/7. There are so many things they can get into and eat when we aren’t looking.

With proper Training dogs begin to love their crates. I know mine do and it’s their private personal space. I make sure they all only use their own crate.. The other dogs cannot enter someone else’s crate, even if they are inside. Nope.
